Working with visiting designer Nicole Killian we were prompted to create multiples for our classmates. We had to give them something which wasn’t just a product but a piece of me. I love plants so I knew I wanted to give everyone something from my garden.

As needing 15 multiples of a plant I decided to give dried bee balm flower. The delicate flower needed a box to protect it. Bee balm is an amazing plant that is native to Maryland and is great source of food for pollinators. This plant has been used for centuries as medicine, valued for it’s healing qualities.

I found a beautiful box template that had the top of the box be slightly elongated allowing the tabs to close at the top as a flower. This helped me keep the underlying theme of sustainability within the project through completely avoiding the need for glue.

The intricate closing of the box required people to take care when opening as to not rip it. I wanted people to have a personal experience with opening the box and the element of surprise as to what was inside aided this. I hope this multiple will be passed along to be a gift to nature and pollinators.
